Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein—the man in charge of the Mueller probe who Donald Trump has previously publicly considered firing—has now reportedly developed a strong rapport with the president. The Wall Street Journal reports the two men are now in close contact—and Trump is said to call Rosenstein to discuss issues such as immigration, and the DAG visits the White House as often as three times a week. It’s quite a turnaround for the man who personally approved raids on the home, office, and hotel room of Trump attorney Michael Cohen. “It’s fantastic,” Trump said about his relationship with Rosenstein when a spokesman told him the Journal was seeking a comment. “We have great relationship. Make sure you tell them that.” It’s reported that Trump views Rosenstein as his go-to official in the Justice Department after souring on Attorney General Jeff Sessions over his decision to recuse himself from the Russia investigation because he served on the Trump campaign and interacted with the Russian ambassador. A Justice Department spokeswoman said Rosenstein has a “productive working relationship” with Trump, but he refused to comment directly.
