President Donald Trump made the false claim that ID is needed to buy cereal when asked about voter ID laws in an interview with The Daily Caller. “If you buy a box of cereal—you have a voter ID,” the president said. “They try to shame everybody by calling them racist, or calling them something, anything they can think of, when you say you want voter ID. But voter ID is a very important thing.” Trump told the website voter ID is essential, insisting that Republicans aren’t winning because of “potentially illegal votes.” He claimed, with zero evidence, that people have been changing clothes in order to vote multiple times. “When people get in line that have absolutely no right to vote and they go around in circles,” Trump said. “Sometimes they go to their car, put on a different hat, put on a different shirt, come in and vote again. Nobody takes anything. It’s really a disgrace what’s going on.” In the interview, Trump also called for Florida’s Broward County Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes to be fired after the states’ gubernatorial and Senate elections were sent to a recount. The president also suggested sinister motives behind vote-counting issues in Broward County. “When they call this woman incompetent, they’re wrong,” Trump said of Snipes. “She’s very competent but in a bad way.”
