Trump: Vance Will Have ‘Virtually No Impact’ on His Election Chances

‘NO IMPACT’

“Historically, the choice of a vice president makes no difference,” Trump said at the National Association of Black Journalists Conference on Wednesday.

Donald Trump said that his choice for vice president, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, had “virtually no impact” on his chances of winning the general election in November. At the National Association of Black Journalists conference on Wednesday, Fox News host Harris Faulkner asked Trump if he thought Vance was ready to take over in case of an emergency. “I’ve always had great respect for him, and for the other candidates too,” Trump replied, before taking a turn. “But I will say this, and I think this is well documented, historically, I think the vice president, in terms of the election, does not have any impact. I mean, virtually no impact.” Trump did not answer the question about Vance’s readiness to take over directly, instead adding, “Virtually never has it mattered...historically the choice of a vice president makes no difference. You’re voting for the president and you can have a vice president who’s outstanding in every way and I think that J.D. is, I think that all of them, would have been. But you’re not voting that way. You’re voting for the president. You’re voting for me. If you like me, I’m going to win. If you don’t like me, I’m not going to win.”
