President-elect Donald Trump took a thinly veiled shot at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after her failed bid at a leadership seat on the House Oversight Committee this week, saying the Democratic Party’s decision to instead back a cancer-stricken 74-year-old was “too bad.”
In a Truth Social post Wednesday evening, Trump sent some sarcastic words of encouragement to Ocasio-Cortez, one of his staunchest critics, writing: “Really too bad that AOC lost the Battle for the Leadership Seat in the Democrat Party.
“She should keep trying. Someday, she will be successful!,” he concluded.

Rep. Gerry Connolly won the vote to be the leading Democrat on the Oversight Committee on Tuesday, winning by a margin of 131 to 84. While Connolly told reporters that his colleagues were “looking at capability,” a report from Punchbowl News last week claimed that former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was “actively working to tank” the New York representative’s bid and was making calls on Connolly’s behalf.
“Pelosi has made her support for Connolly publicly known,” Punchbowl added in their report. “But her behind-the-scenes maneuvering shows the amount of political capital Pelosi’s willing to put into the contest.”
“My colleagues were measuring their vote by who has got experience, who is seasoned, who can be trusted, who has a record of productivity,” Connolly added Tuesday. “That prevailed.”
In response to Trump’s jab, AOC wrote on X Wednesday: “Damn you know it’s bad when even Trump is feeling bad for me,” along with a cry-laughing face emoji.
