President Trump will campaign for Mississippi’s Republican senator Cindy Hyde-Smith on the eve of her runoff election against Democrat Mike Espy. The Trump campaign announced the news Saturday, saying the president will rally for Hyde-Smith in Tupelo on Nov. 26, and then again just a few hours later in Biloxi. Trump endorsed Hyde-Smith in April, but the senator has come under fire recently for joking about her readiness to be “on the front row” if invited to a “public hanging.” The comments, caught on video and widely circulated on social media, provoked outrage for what many saw as a casual reference to lynching. Shortly after those remarks, Hyde-Smith told a group of supporters it was a “great idea” to make voting for “liberal folks” just “a little more difficult.”
