Trump to Declare National Emergency to Speed Up Coronavirus Response

Trump will reportedly invoke the Stafford Act on Friday, in order to allow more federal aid for states and municipalities, according to Bloomberg.

President Donald Trump is set to declare a national emergency on Friday for the novel coronavirus pandemic, Bloomberg News reports. He will also invoke the Stafford Act, which will open the door for federal aid to help states and municipalities better respond to the outbreak. Trump plans to announce these new measures during a 3 p.m. press conference, a move that will also allow the government to marshal more resources to coronavirus containment.
