Trump Upends G7 With ‘Fits of Anger’ at Trudeau

President Trump left the G7 summit in Quebec on Saturday only to lash out at other world leaders on Twitter after his departure. Deriding Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as “very dishonest and weak,” the president used social media to announce from aboard Air Force One that he had refused to sign a joint statement endorsed by all the other G7 nations. He blamed the move on what he described as Trudeau’s “false statements” after the summit, when the Canadian prime minister criticized U.S. tariffs. Trump also mocked Trudeau for “acting so meek and mild” during G7 meetings. Trudeau’s office appeared to take the high road following Trump’s public attack, issuing a statement noting that Trudeau “said nothing he hasn’t said before—both in public, and in private conversations with the President.” French President Emmanuel Macron also hit back at Trump after the remarks, saying in a statement released from his office Sunday that “international cooperation cannot be dictated by fits of anger and throwaway remarks.”
