Elián González, who was at the center of an international tug-of-war a quarter of a century ago, is about to become a member of Cuba’s National Assembly. González was just a pre-schooler when his father in Cuba and family in Florida battled for custody of him after his mother died trying to bring him to the United States on a refugee boat that sank. González was ultimately returned to Cuba, where Fidel Castro treated him like a hero and where he embraced the regime.
