Turkish President Falls Ill on Live TV, Cites ‘Stomach Flu’

After falling suddenly ill on a TV broadcast Tuesday evening, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has temporarily suspended his re-election campaign activities, the BBC reports. On Wednesday, Erdogan said he had a “serious stomach flu.” Meanwhile, Turkey’s health minister said the president is suffering from “infectious gastroenteritis.” The incident came after two days of intensive campaigning amid what the BBC called “his toughest election campaign so far.”
