The bodies of two climbers who went missing on Pakistan’s “Killer Mountain” have been found, officials said. Daniele Nardi, of Italy, and Tom Ballard, of England, disappeared while making a “rare” winter ascent of Nanga Parbat, a 26,660-foot mountain in the Himalayas, according to Reuters. Climbing Nagna Parbat in the winter is considered one of the most difficult climbs in the world. Italian Embassador to Pakistan Stefano Pontecorvo tweeted Saturday morning, “With great sadness I inform that the search for @NardiDaniele and Tom Ballard is over as...the search team have confirmed that the silhouettes spotted on Mummery at about 5900 meters are those of Daniele and Tom. R.I.P. #NangaParbat.” Because their bodies were spotted on the high-altitude “Mummery” route, which no climber has ever successfully ascended, it’s unlikely their remains will be recovered. The mountaineers last made contact with others on Feb. 24, when Nardi phoned his wife, Reuters notes.
