A U.N. team doing reconnaissance work in Syria for investigators surveying sites where a suspected chemical-weapons attack occurred earlier this month came under fire, according to Reuters. The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons claimed it was “no longer clear when the inspectors would be able to go in.” OPCW Director-General Ahmet Üzümcü said that the reconnaissance team faced a “large crowd” at one of the sites. At a second site, they came under “small arms fire,” and an explosive was detonated, he said. The team then returned to Damascus. Syria invited OPCW investigators to the country amid an international outcry over the suspected chemical attack in Douma, which killed more than 40 people.
