The Trump administration has restricted U.S. firms from selling parts to a Chinese company because of national-security concerns, citing a “significant risk” that tech firm Fujian Jinhua could get involved in activities that may compromise U.S. safety. “When a foreign company engages in activity contrary to our national-security interests, we will take strong action to protect our national security,” Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said in a statement. The restrictions on the tech company would “limit its ability to threaten the supply chain for essential components in our military systems,” said Ross. The U.S. is concerned that Chinese competition could drive U.S. tech suppliers out of business, leaving the military without a secure source for parts. It’s the latest escalation of a trade war that saw Trump impose tariffs on $250 billion of Chinese goods.
