Screams and a blizzard of confetti cheered the World Cup winning U.S. women's soccer players as they rolled up New York City’s “Canyon of Heroes” on Friday in the first tickertape parade honoring a women’s sports team.

According to city records, New York City has hosted 205 parades since 1886 along the Canyon of Heroes, which is located along Broadway between the Battery and City Hall.

The National team drove down the parade route at points blaring Queen’s “We Are the Champions.”

In reference to the women’s national team’s inaugural ride through the Canyon of Heroes, Mayor Bill de Blasio quipped, “It’s about time, isn’t it?”

“Young women who watched that game will grow up to tell their daughters and tell their sons,” de Blasio said.
