The University of Southern California is poised to pay a $215 million settlement to women treated by Dr. George Tyndall, a USC campus gynecologist who has been accused of extensive sexual misconduct. University officials said Friday that USC’s Board of Trustees supports this “agreement in principle,” which would settle class-action litigation over Tyndall’s alleged abuse. Many students have accused the former campus doctor of making inappropriate comments while treating them, as well as harassment, according to reports. The deal “will provide relief to those who have been impacted by this difficult experience,” USC said in a statement. Tyndall’s patients qualify for up to $2,500 under the settlement; women who accuse him of abuse may qualify for up to $250,000, according to a statement released by Hagens Berman, the law firm representing these women. Tyndall’s lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
