COLD SHOULDERS

Usha Vance opted for a chilly off-the-shoulder look for the second family’s first foreign trip in office.

She stepped off Air Force Two in Paris wearing all black down to her heels, leading the way off the jet while holding hands with her four-year-old son Vivek, whose birthday is Wednesday.

Not far behind Usha, 39, was JD Vance—dressed in a blue suit—and their eldest son, Ewan, 7, who walked down the steps on his own. The vice president carried his three-year-old daughter Mirabel in his arms.

The second family were greeted on the ground by officials who shared pleasantries with the elder Vances as their two sons—in coats and pajama pants after the nearly 4,000-mile flight from Washington—wandered out of the frame of C-SPAN cameras.

It is the first time Usha, the daughter of Indian immigrants, has been spotted with her husband since he called for a Department of Government Efficiency engineer who posted “normalize Indian hate” (and resigned after it was uncovered) to be rehired to Elon Musk’s team.

Vance’s support for the 25-year-old engineer drew the ire of the Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna, also born to Indian immigrant parents, who asked Vance: “Are you going to tell him to apologize for saying ‘Normalize Indian hate’ before this rehire? Just asking for the sake of both of our kids.”

Vance traveled to Paris to attend an artificial intelligence summit where the VP—a former U.S. senator who served just a quarter of his first term before joining Trump’s ticket—will make his debut on the international stage as part of the Trump Administration.

Vance, 40, is expected to assert Trump’s approach to diplomacy while abroad, first in Paris and later this week in Germany at the Munich Security Conference. At the latter event, reports say he will meet with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

One of Trump’s key campaign promises was to bring about peace abroad, specifically in Ukraine and in the Middle East. A ceasefire deal was reached between Israel and Hamas before he was sworn into office, but there has been no imminent signs of an agreement being reached by Ukraine and Russia—despite Trump’s debate claim he would have the war over on day one of his presidency.
