One of the men accused of attempting to assassinate Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro in an explosive drone attack last month has died in mysterious circumstances after falling from a window. Government officials insist Fernando Albán, a 56-year-old city councillor in Caracas, took his own life by jumping from the tenth floor of the Bolivarian Intelligence Service—the country's main intelligence agency. But Albán's lawyer, Joel Garcia, told CNN that the government's account is “totally false.” Albán was arrested Friday for his alleged involvement in the August 4 attack. Dramatic footage from the assassination attempt showed two explosions at a military parade which sent soldiers scattering for cover. Luis Almagro, the Secretary-General of the Organization of American States, said Albán's death was the direct result of a “torturing and homicidal regime.”
