Trump is Trying to Assassinate Me, Says Venezuela's President Maduro
TRAPPED
Venezuela’s crisis-hit leader Nicolas Maduro has accused President Donald Trump of ordering his assassination. In an interview with Moscow’s RIA news agency, Maduro, whose leadership is being challenged by opposition leader Juan Guaidó, claimed: “Donald Trump has without doubt given an order to kill me and has told the government of Colombia and the Colombian mafia to kill me.” Meanwhile Maduro says he's now open for talks with his challenger. Guaidó declared himself interim president last week—he was backed by the U.S. but Maduro has major allies including Russia. The Supreme Court remains loyal to Maduro and ruled that the opposition leader “is prohibited from leaving the country” until an investigation concludes whether he has “caused harm to peace in the republic.” But, in RIA interview Wednesday, Maduro said he's “willing to sit down for talks with the opposition for the sake of Venezuela’s peace and its future.” Donald Trump weighed in on Twitter early Wednesday, saying: “Americans should not travel to Venezuela until further notice.”
