Amid a slew of recent reports of racist 911 calls, actor Ving Rhames has revealed that he too once had police in California called on him simply for being a black man. In an interview with SiriusXM's The Clay Cane Show on Friday, the Mission: Impossible star said Santa Monica police officers pointed a gun at him when he was in his own home earlier this year. After hearing a knock at the door, he said, “I open the door and there is a red dot pointed at my face from a 9-mm. They say put up your hands, literally. … My hands are up and they have me outside.” Rhames said the officers only backed down when the chief of police recognized him. The officers then told him someone had phoned 911 to report a “large black man” had broken into the home, an accusation the caller later denied making when confronted by Rhames. “My problem is, as I said this to them, what if it was my son and he had a video game remote or something and you thought it was a gun?” he said.
