Travis Reinking—the man accused of shooting four people dead and wounding two others Sunday at a Tennessee Waffle House—has been placed in solitary confinement and is on suicide watch after undergoing a mental-health evaluation in a county jail. Local police tweeted Tuesday that Reinking is now facing four additional charges of attempted murder and one of unlawfully possessing a gun. One of the additional charges relates to his alleged attempted murder of James Shaw Jr., the man who was lauded as a hero after he snatched the suspect’s AR-15-style rifle out of his hands as he paused to reload. The country sheriff said Reinking was “alert, cooperative, and compliant,” but described his confinement as extremely restricted. Reinking has been given clothing designed to prevent self-harm, has been barred from using utensils, and can only have contact with visitors through video conference.
