Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced Wednesday that the state is suing Motel 6 for allegedly divulging the personal information of more than 9,000 guests to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. Ferguson called the motel chain’s actions—which included the disclosure of names, birth dates, and license-plate numbers—“disturbing” and “unlawful.” Motel 6 previously said it would stop sharing information with federal authorities in Arizona, and Ferguson alleges that top officials at the motel chain knew that employees in Washington were trained to divulge such information to the feds.
