Woman Arrested for Squashing Buns in Store and Not Buying Them

The woman told cops she was merely checking the firmness of the snack.

A woman in Japan was arrested for “criminal damage” after squashing a packet of buns and not buying them, according to the BBC. The alleged crime took place on Monday in the southern city of Fukuoka, but the woman—who said she was homeless—told police she was merely checking the firmness of the four-pack of black sesame and cream cheese buns, a popular snack in Japan. The Lawson store owner, however, claimed the woman was a serial bun squasher and added that he had seen her doing it in the past. He demanded she fork out the $1.20 for the damaged goods, but she refused. While the packaging was still intact, he deemed the goods unsellable because of the thumb imprint in one of the buns. She was arrested after the store owner followed her out the door, restrained her, and called police.
