A Pennsylvania woman was bitten in the head by a bear on Tuesday night during a chaotic face-off between her dog and the mother bear’s three cubs. Emergency crews were called to the scene in Butler Township, about 38 miles north of Pittsburgh, at around 8:30 p.m., according to Channel 11, which reported that the woman was taken to a local hospital. She suffered injuries to the back of her head and on both arms. “This is a first for me and a first for the area. I talked to some people who said they’ve been seeing them in the area,” Sgt. Thomas Vensel with Butler Township Police told the news outlet. He said he didn’t know the extent of the woman’s injuries, but neighbors said her dog was fine. Wildlife officials said they had to euthanize the mother bear after she “became aggressive” during attempts to tranquilize her and her three cubs. The three cubs initially scurried up into nearby trees but were eventually tranquilized and taken away.
