Women, Children 60% of Gaza Home Deaths

During last summer’s war in Gaza, 247 Israeli airstrikes hit residential compounds and mostly killed women, children, and the elderly. An analysis conducted by the Associated Press shows 60 percent of those strikes’ fatalities were among presumed civilians (127 under age 5); 11 percent were confirmed or suspected militants; the rest were military-age males who were not identified as militants. Israel says Hamas used residences to hide weapons, fighters, and command centers. By the UN’s count, 2,205 Palestinians in total were killed during the 50 days of fighting.
