Cordle came clean in the video, saying the incident occurred after a round of bar-hopping and heavy drinking on June 2. The video was posted on September 3, and swiftly went viral. While prosecutors had initially gone for a maximum sentence, a push by the victim’s family not “to see two lives lost in this terrible situation” caused prosecutors to ask for a six-to-eight year sentence.
