Illinois residents should prepare to hear a lot about Rick Santorum in the coming weeks. Starting Thursday, ads will run on the $122,000-worth of cable time the Santorum camp has already bought in the state, but that's not it. The candidate's super PAC also just spent $310,000 on additional Illinois air time and this is just their first buy of possibly many in the state. Santorum's team isn't the only one hitting the ground running against the GOP primary there. Romney has spent $939,000 in addition to the $2.4 million his super PAC Restore Our Future has thrown at advertising in Illinois. A recent Chicago Tribune/WGN poll predicts a tight primary race, with Romney leading Santorum 35-31.
