A new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that not only do more Americans have diabetes, but a frighteningly large percentage don’t even realize they have it. One in four Americans with diabetes do not realize they have it. Twenty-nine million people in the U.S. have the disease, up from 2010 estimates of 26 million. An additional 86 million have prediabetes, which means their blood sugar is higher than normal. Without weight loss and exercise, 15 to 30 percent will develop Type 2 diabetes in the next five years.
