A Dutch company has selected 100 finalists for a one-way trip to Mars that is expected to take off in 2024. Mars One has narrowed its 200,000 applicant pool down to just 100 people, but only four will ultimately make it onto their planned pioneer voyage. The U.S. has the most representatives, with 38 of the 100 finalists. Canada and Australia are the next biggest contributers to the 50 men and 50 women. "Even the astronauts on the International Space Station switch out every couple of months and go back home to family,” Norbert Kraft, Mars One's chief medical officer, told the Washington Post. “In our case, the astronauts will live together in a group for the rest of their lives.”
