Could 1,000 people have already died in Libya? That’s the latest number put forth by Italy’s foreign minister. The country is essentially split in two, with eastern cities having declared independence. On Tuesday, Muammar Gaddafi called for demonstrations from his supporters but Reuters says only 150 or so people have gathered so far in Tripoli’s main square Wednesday.
