At least 13 people have died in Chicago while shoveling in a blizzard that left about 19 inches of snow across parts of Illinois, officials said. Authorities from county medical examiner and coroner offices said 10 deaths ocurred in Cook County and three were reported in suburban DuPage County between about 6 p.m. Jan. 31 and 11:59 p.m. Feb. 2. Nine of the victims were in their sixties, three were in their fifties, and one was in his forties. All except one of the victims were male. Blizzard conditions left heavy, wet snow that was described as “heart-attack snow.” The storm was the city’s fifth largest in recorded history, weather officials said.
