Two Americans were injured in Monday’s attack on a Berlin Christmas market, according to a U.S. embassy spokesperson. One of them remains in critical condition. Authorities had not identified the American victims as of Thursday morning, but a San Benito, Texas, man’s family told local reporters that he was in serious condition following the attack. According to his family, 62-year-old Richard Ramirez moved to Germany 10 years ago to live with his partner, who allegedly died in the attack. Ramirez’s brother Armando said the U.S. embassy called their family on Wednesday morning. “They told me he was in the hospital in the ICU and they had done surgery and removed part of his colon and it messed up his ACL,” he said. The embassy’s Office for Victim Assistance is helping Ramirez’s family travel to Germany in order to be by his side. “Everyone’s been praying for my brother and the other victims and all we can do is hang on to our faith and pray,” he said. A total of 12 people were killed and nearly 50 were wounded in the event. Officials on Wednesday released the photo and identity of a Tunisian suspect in the case, and German media reported Thursday that the man—Anis Amri—left fingerprints and identification in the vehicle.
