A suicide bomber in Chechnya killed seven people—seven of whom were police—during celebrations to mark the end of Ramadan, a police source told the state’s Interfax news agency. A man reportedly detonated a bomb in Grozny, Chechnya’s capital, when police patrols tried to detain him. A second blast soon followed. In addition to the seven people killed, another 16 were injured, the independent news agency reported. Residents told Reuters they heard gunshots shortly after the explosion. Chechnya is home to an Islamist insurgency that has organized attacks for independence from Russia. None of the Islamist leaders claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s attacks.
