The U.S. Border Patrol’s Search Trauma and Rescue unit discovered two underground tunnels beneath the California-Mexico border over a two-day period, U-T San Diego reported Tuesday. The first tunnel was found Monday near Calexico across from Mexicali, while the second was uncovered Tuesday—an incomplete passageway in the Tijuana Rivery Valley across from Tijuana’s Avenida Internacional. The discovery came after agents had intercepted four men attempting to cross the All-American Canal with 25 vacuum-sealed packages containing 69 pounds of methamphetamine, valued at $694,000. Three of the men fled back to Mexico while the fourth was caught in the canal.
