Aghan officials say there is little hope in rescuing the thousands buried in a massive landslide in the northeastern region of the country Friday night. While civilians have been working with soldiers to unearth bodies, there is also a high risk that the efforts may trigger another mudslide. The U.N. said Friday that 350 were killed, and the provincial governor estimated that 2,000 were unaccounted for. Some groups estimate as many as 2,700 are missing. "That will be their cemetery," said Mohammed Karim Kahlili, one of Afghanistan's two vice presidents. "It is not possible to bring out any bodies." President Hamid Karzai declared a national day of mourning, saying there was "no hope" for most of those buried and declaring the landslide a "human tragedy."
