More than 2,300 people have been quarantined and at least 1,381 schools have been closed as concerns grow in South Korea over an outbreak of MERS, the Middle East respiratory syndrome. Most of the closed schools are in the Gyeonggi province, which is the area outside Seoul where the outbreak began. So far, five people have died from the virus, with another 64 currently battling it. MERS is a disease that surfaced three years ago, and doctors still do not know exactly where it came from or how it is transmitted.
