Gunmen in Mexico dumped 35 bodies Tuesday beneath a busy motorway near a shopping center in Boca del Rio, a popular destination for Mexican tourists to Veracruz. The bodies showed sign of torture, and in an effort to calm citizens, police announced that the seven victims all identified so far all had extensive criminal records. “This is not about civilians,” the Veracruz state prosecutor said. “These are people involved in illicit business, in drug sales.” The bodies spilled from two parked vehicles, and at least 11 were women. The Veracruz region has fallen increasingly under the sway of the drug gang Los Zetas.
