A grand jury recommended charges Monday against 37 people in connection with the 2013 death of a Baruch College student in a hazing ritual. Michael Deng and the other pledges of his fraternity, Pi Delta Psi, were ordered to carry a backpack filled with 20 pounds of sand across a Pennsylvania field covered in snow while the brothers of the fraternity tackled them. Deng had a head injury and subsequently died when fraternity members didn’t take him to the hospital immediately. The frat and five particular members face charges of homicide, involuntary manslaughter, and aggravated assault.
