At least 40 people were killed in Mexico over the course of 24 hours as a result of fighting between the Zetas gang and other drug cartels. Twenty people died Friday after gunmen opened fire at a bar in Monterrey. Eleven bodies were found near a well on the outskirts of Mexico City earlier Friday, and another 10 bodies were found around the city of Torreón early Saturday morning. A federal security spokesman said, “The violence is a product of this criminal rivalry … surrounding the intent to control illegal activities in a community, and not only the earnings that come with it, but also with transporting drugs to the United States."
