Largely due to snow and whiteout conditions, traffic stood still on the highway connecting Chicago and Detroit following a 40-vehicle pileup on Thursday. Fifteen of the vehicles were semi-trucks. Three people died and more than 20 were injured, one critically. One person was pinned to a car for hours before being rescued. Photos of the devastation show crushed cars stuck between destroyed semiis. Investigators are still working to determine the chain of events.
