This puts the black in Black Friday. Target is investigating what could be one of the largest breaches of consumer data involving information for approximately 40 million customers that began the big shopping day after Thanksgiving, and may be ongoing. Investigators say the data—which includes customer names, card numbers, expiration dates, and security codes—was probably taken by way of software installed on card swipers at checkout lines. The retailer has apologized and said it is “working with law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice.”
