417,000 Evacuated from China's Coast

Perfect Storm

In advance of Typhoon Fitow.

417,000 people were evacuated from two coastal provinces in southeast China on Sunday in preparation for an approaching typhoon. Authorities also recalled over 65,000 offshore fishing vessels operating in the area. Typhoon Fitow is expected to make landfall early Monday between the two evacuated provinces, and meteorologists predict that in addition to the two evacuated provinces, Taiwan, Shanghai and three more provinces will be affected. Heavy to torrential rain should last throughout the region for three days.
