5,000 Migrants Rescued Since Friday

OVERWHELMING

In the Mediterranean.

More than 5,000 migrants have been rescued in the Mediterranean while trying to reach Europe since Friday. Operations are already underway on Sunday to rescue 500 more. The migrants left Libya in 25 boats and were picked up by ships from an international coalition of Italy, Britain, Malta, Germany, Ireland, and Belgium, as well as planes from Iceland and Finland. At least 17 corpses were found on one of the boats that arrived in a Sicilian port. It is reportedly the biggest single wave of migrants so far in 2015.
