Experts have found residue from 6,000-year-old wine on ancient pottery in a Sicilian cave, meaning residents in the region may have been consuming the alcohol a lot earlier than was previously thought. Experts believed until now that wine production developed in Sicily in the Middle Bronze Age, but the new report published in Microchemical Journal would change that by about three millennia. Davide Tanasi, of the University of South Florida, told CNN, “This discovery has important archaeological and historical implications.”
