According to reports in Al-Ahram, the state-run newspaper, Egypt's new constitution was overwhelmingly approved in the two-day referendum. According to the unofficial results, over 90 percent of voters approved the constitution, and about 36 percent of eligible voters cast ballots, which is higher than the third of voters who voted during the last referendum under ousted President Mohamed Morsi. The approved constitution is widely seen as the first step towards a run by General Abdel Fattah Sisi, who is all but running the country currently.
