Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks, issued a rare public statement to help absolve Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, the son-in-law of Osama bin Laden who is on trial in New York City. Over the course of a 14-page statement, he claimed that Abu Ghaith's main purpose was to preach the Quran to al Qaeda recruits and was not involved for the actual planning of terrorist attacks. Mohammed also threw in a jab at the U.S., citing its training of jihadists in the 1980s against Soviet forces. "Uncle Sam destroyed his own country by his own hand with his stupid foreign policy," he said.
