Stephanie DeSimone, whose husband was killed in the September 11th attacks, has filed a lawsuit against Saudi Arabia in the wake of a brand new law which allows the victims’ families to sue the kingdom for damages. The Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) was passed by both houses of Congress but vetoed by President Obama. The Senate overrode Obama’s veto last week, meaning the legislation is now the law of the land without Obama’s signature. Saudi Arabia is strongly opposed to the JASTA. In her lawsuit, DeSimone alleges that Saudi Arabia provided material support to al Qaeda and was aware of the attack in advance. DeSimone’s husband, Navy Cmdr. Patrick Dunn, was killed when a plane flew into the Pentagon on September 11th.
