Since her relationship with Kanye West began, Kim Kardashian has gone through a Komplete Style Makeover. Quite literally: Kanye transformed her from a body con-dress-wearing dead ringer for a Pussy Cat Doll and turned her into a tuxedo-wearing dead ringer for Serbian performance artist Marina Abramović. But, now pregnant, Kanye’s sleek aesthetic has proven hard to master: Pea in the Pod maternity clothes are, obviously, not allowed. Kardashian has been averse to maternity clothes, preferring all-black Lululemon outfits when she’s not in Givenchy. And then there have been the headlines: the nasty, fat-shaming articles that portray Kardashian as an obese overeater rather than a healthy pregnant woman. At the "PUNK: Chaos to Couture" Costume Institute Gala in New York City on May 6, the pregnant reality-show star stepped out in a full-length floral Givenchy gown designed by Riccardo Tisci. The high-rise slit, the matching printed heels, and the almighty gleeves (sleeves plus gloves equals gleeves) completed this maternity number. But the dress became an Internet meme, with some writers comparing it to a sofa—and Robin Williams comparing it to Mrs. Doubtfire. (Tisci, incidentally, later defended the dress, saying: “I think she looked amazing,” he said. “She was the most beautiful pregnant woman I dressed in my career.”)
