Abby Sunderland, the 16-year-old American who set out to become the youngest person in the world to circumnavigate the globe alone, is alive after coming head-to-head with a storm in the Indian Ocean. An Australian rescue team searching for her made contact early Friday. “She’s fine, the boat’s afloat and she’s on it,” said her father Laurence Sunderland, "It’s huge, fantastic, exciting news.” Abby had activated an emergency alarm on her yacht, Wild Eyes, before losing all communication. Her last blog entry detailed the harsh conditions she'd been sailing through. "I’ve been in some rough weather for a while," she wrote. "The wind is beginning to pick up.”
