Filmmaker Menahem Golan who was behind some of the biggest action movies of all time, passed away at 85 on Friday his family announced. Golan cast action stars like Chuck Norris, Charles Bronson, Sylvester Stallone and Jean-Claude Van Damme in his films. He once defended his fare to the AP in 1985, declaring, "Schlock is entertainment for the masses. It's fantasy. Storytelling without challenging the mind too much." Golan was born in Tiberias in 1929, served time in the Israeli Army before appearing in a few U.S. films including Fiddler on the Roof. He would go on to produce action fare like The Delta Force, Bloodsport, Missing in Action, and the Death Wish sequels.
