Activists Arrested in Cuba

NOT SO FAST

Allegedly to prevent demonstration.

It doesn’t look like much is changing. On Tuesday, Cuban authorities arrested several people in an attempted to prevent their participation and coverage of a rally in Havana—a new movement called #YoTambienExijo (IAlsoDemand). Of those arrested was journalist Reinaldo Escobar, whose wife—a prominent blogger—was also placed under house arrest and told not to cover the event. The rally would have brought together people to share one-minute viewpoints on the direction their country should take, but was prevented from happening. Several other human rights activists were also visited by State Security officers.
