Afghanistan, Libya, John McCain and More

McCain calls Afghan withdrawal an unnecessary risk, Graham blasts the Obama-Biden Afghan strategy, and more in our Sunday talk roundup.

        McCain: Withdrawal is Unnecessary Risk

Is it too early to withdraw troops from Afghanistan? John McCain thinks so. Speaking to Candy Crowley on State of the Union, McCain said troop withdrawal is an “unnecessary risk” not supported by anyone in the military. Furthermore, the people of Afghanistan are wondering if the U.S. is leaving, which could undermine the entire operation.

        Graham: Obama Kills Afghan Momentum

Sen. Lindsey Graham is not happy with the president’s decision to withdraw 30,000 troops from Afghanistan. “He may have undercut the momentum we achieved in the last year,” the Republican said on Fox News Sunday. Labeling the accelerated withdrawal the “Obama-Biden Strategy,” Graham said that the decision further muddles America’s reasons for staying in the country.

        Donilon: Gaddafi Ouster is Inevitable

The end is nigh for Muammar Gaddafi. At least, according to Obama’s National Security Adviser Tom Donilon. In an interview with Fareed Zakaria, Donilon said that it’s almost inevitable that the much-maligned ruler will be ousted soon. He added that the United States has accomplished everything it set out to do in Libya…so far.

Cornyn to Obama: That’s Crazy Talk

Republican Sen. John Cornyn has some choice words for President Obama: Stop talking like a crazy person. Cornyn told Fox News Sunday that the idea of the 14th Amendment allows the president to ignore the debt ceiling is absolutely bonkers. While the senator acknowledged that Obama, Speaker Boehner, and Mitch McConnell are the only ones who can make a deal on the debt limit, he stressed these negotiations need to be done with transparency and not behind closed doors.

        Cottle: Halperin the Naughty Boy

Is it okay to call President Obama a d—k on cable television. On Reliable Sources, The Daily Beast’s Michelle Cottle called Mark Halperin’s choice words for the president a classic “naughty boy” move. But is he now the poster-boy for superficiality?

        Walker: Let’s Cut Education!

Looks as though it’s back to school for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. On Face the Nation, the Republican said that in this economy, “strong structural changes” and “reforms” to the educational system are a surefire way to rebuild. To us, it sounds like a lot of jargon for “education cuts.”

        Vargas: The Immigration Debate

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, illegal immigrant, and now talking head? In a panel discussion on This Week, Jose Antonio Vargas explained why he chose to come out as an illegal immigrant.
